Outer Banks (May 2007)
medium
The Outer Banks are a string of narrow barrier islands off the coast of North Carolina, mostly unspoilt. We stayed in Ocracoke, the most Southern island of the OBX - a week afterwards it was elected 'Best Beach 2007'. Some parts of the beaches only could be reached by 4x4 (or hiking). I like the trucks with the fishing gear attached in front, including the cooler and the mini BBQ. The lighthouse on Cape Hatteras is the highest of the nation (and was moved in 1999 due to land erosion).
